CMDB

The objective of the CMDB (Configuration Management Database) is to give IT managers a dynamic and always updated view of the technological infrastructure, which services support each business process and how to reduce the costs involved in its use. The precise knowledge of the existing resources allow them to be controlled, maintained and improved so as to comply with the service levels required by the users within an organization. The implementation of IT Governance practices based on ITIL is only possible with the adoption of a CMDB model.

In order to make this possible, it is necessary to implement a Federated CMDB where all the components of the IT environment are managed in three layers: infrastructure, services and business processes.

The CMDB Implementation Cycle and Management

The dynamic of the working processes within an organization is quite agile.  New market opportunities require a fast adaptation of strategies and actions necessary for their implementation. In this scenario, the change of the business processes is constant, which affects the IT resources directly and immediately. The CMDB must be faced as a highly dynamic information base that requires constant maintenance and clearly defined processes for its maintenance.
