Central Bank

The Central Bank of Brazil is an Institution that integrates the National Financial System, linked to Brazil’s Ministry of Finance. It is the main monetary authority in the country.

The Project

With a variety of vital services for the financial system and several platforms integrated in real time, the IT and communications infrastructure of the Central Bank of Brazil is a basis for the efficiency and health of the financial system and the entire economy. The major challenge is maintaining the park operating 24/7. An interruption in the Central Bank’s technological knot could lock the economy, with unthinkable impacts. Therefore, the bank is always working with precise innovations and investments. Like the largest technology organizations in the world, the bank cannot run the risk of permitting that the equipment and network come close to forming bottlenecks. To do so, it is necessary to always have a “performance cushion” in order to have leeway during peak moments of system loads.

CIMCORP performed the entire upgrading of equipment, which was not only an expansion in capacity, but also a change in technology of the network nucleus, which migrated from ATM to Gigabit Ethernet. This upgrade was performed at the headquarters in Brasilia and in the regional subsidiaries in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Besides this, CIMCORP maintains a maintenance contract with Bacen (Central Bank) for the Brasilia network. Besides the natural growth of processing and network demand, the availability, security and service quality requirements are determining factors.

“The major challenge for us, managers of this area, is to maintain the park operating 24/7. An interruption in the Central Bank’s technological knot would lock the economy, causing unconceivable impacts.”

José Felix Furtado de Mendonça, unit sub-director of the Central Bank
