SmartTech

The SmartTech Group is formed by six companies – SmartTech Acoustic Glass, Plastic, Electric, Mechanics – each of them operating in simulations regarding the respective areas, besides SmartTech Training, directed towards professionals who wish to become qualified in the area of tests, and SmartTech Services, which performs structural analyses, evaluation of vehicular impacts, the mapping of suppliers for qualification, among other activities.

The Project

The SmartTech Group relied on a technological park, whose management of done by its own IT team.  With the growth of the company and the expansion of its business, including the opening of new branches, the demand for information technology services also increased.

“We concluded that our evolution needed to be supported by a complex IT environment, which would guarantee state-of-the-art technologies for us”, reveals the SmarTech Group director, Ricardo Nogueira.  “This led the organization to understand the need to review processes, which involved the adoption of a new model for the IT infrastructure”, the executive affirmed.

The company then decided to invest in a new form of investment created by CIMCORP: Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). The model has as its main differential, the possibility of shared management. The same occurs with the purchase of the machines, since CIMCORP also makes available the necessary infrastructure for the Companies.

The project began in January of 2008, when the help desk, backup, assisted operation and technical support services were implemented. As reported by Nogueira, the SmarTech Group is currently expanding to the states of Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul, Holambra, in the interior of the state of São Paulo, and Argentina, and because of this, it needed to rely on a unique technology structure. “This was practically impossible within the model that was previously used”, he emphasizes.

Nogueira said that a CIMCORP employee works inside SmartTech and each new service requires the work of a specialized team. At each obstacle during the implementation, new specialists are allocated in order to solve the problem in a fast and agile manner. “This procedure has ensured total reliability and tranquility in the project”. Currently, the entire SmartTech IT is handled by CIMCORP.

Another positive point of the IaaS, according to the executive, is the periodic upgrading of the technology infrastructure, which has been compatible with the changes of the company’s business strategy.

By the end of the year, the project will involve highly complex services such as, the integral monitoring of the technological park, the study of the IT environment capacity and the management of all assets. “We expect to count on greater control and security of the information within the company, besides the remote access of the data”, says the executive.

In SmartTech’s case, all of the equipment and personnel belong to CIMCORP.

“We chose this model because, besides dispensing with heavy initial investments, we would never be able to have an infrastructure compatible with what CIMCORP offers us”

Ricardo Nogueira, director of the SmartTech Group.
