The Paulista Bank

The PAULISTA BANK has a focus on mid-sized corporate entities and individuals in all income brackets. SOCOPA - CORRETORA PAULISTA (Broker) operates in the Stock Exchange and Commodities, in the national and international markets, and in the Currency Exchange Brokerage for financial institutions, pension funds and investments, and individual investors. It also operates for individual clients in general, offering customized products, such as investment clubs and administrated portfolios, and online investments.

The Project

With an annual growth of approximately 35%, the Paulista Bank and Paulista Socopa Brokerage needed to increase the agility of their virtual environments, as well as guarantee security and availability of its clients. The option was to design a project that unified and consolidated the server park of both companies into a single physical space, but with total independence between the environments. This was CIMCORP’s responsibility: to make the companies to continue to operate in an integrated and complementary manner, but with isolated operations, in a monitored and virtualized contingency environment.

Due to the fact that it was an ensemble, the project created a reduction in hardware and software licensing costs for both companies. Among other reduced operational costs with the project are the cooling, electric energy, maintenance of network and backup servers and components. In total, the value invested in the project, which included the virtualization and consolidation of the servers was of R$ 1.5 million.

With the operation, the 50 existing servers were consolidated into only five, being three in the main site and two in the backup site. A main site storage replication model was also implemented for the backup site, mirroring the data and the virtual machines for a fast startup of the contingency environment, in case of failure in the main site. The monitoring of the entire environment is done remotely by means of the CIMCORP NOC (Network Operational System – Monitoring Center). The virtualization optimized the performance of the environment, providing a better use of the processing resources.

“We studied the entire technological park of both companies and we opted for the virtualization of the servers, because by doing so, we gained agility and security. Besides the performance optimization of the environments, the shared project ensured a significant reduction of our costs”.
