Banestes Bank

Created on October 15, 1937; Banestes (The Bank of the State of Espírito Santo) is the only Bank present in all 78 municipalities in the state, with at least one branch in each one.

The Project

After presenting exponential growth indices over the last few years and due to the increasingly stricter demands from the Central Bank, Banestes performed another cycle of technological upgrading in order to better meet the security norms and the availability of its information.

Three years ago, the organization decided to invest in the updating of its main website, besides the creation of its contingency park and the upgrading of its servers. “We had to take this measure in order to prevent against an accident such as, the interruption of an environment”, reveals the technological infrastructure general manager of Banestes, Áurea Maria Carneiro.

The main site was the first one to be reorganized and it went through a modernization process thanks to the increase of capacity and performance. Such improvements were directly transferred to 1 million clients who are in every city of the state of Espírito Santo. One of them was the guarantee of continuity of the company’s business. Besides this, with the high availability of the data, the bank obtained a more efficient maneuvering capacity in case of the necessity for maintenance and started to restore the information in a faster manner.

“All of this reduced risks, thus allowing for conditions to fight for lower interest rates with international organizations”, said the executive, remembering that Banestes’ image also grew in the opinion of the clients. Another benefit was the possibility of providing new services based on the capacity of the processing centers.

In 2005, the bank had a safe-room within its main site with the objective of storing all the security tapes; besides this, the institution had a second copy stored in another location. “The second step to make the data even more secure was the implementation of the contingency park, responsible for the online replication of 90% of the information”, adds the manager.

According to her, the other 10% are less critical data that must be placed in contingency in the project’s expansion. “It must be emphasized that everything works in real time.  When we compile a solution in one of these locations, we ensure that it was duplicated in the other environments too”.

CIMCORP review the entire architectural design of the bank’s infrastructure, which involve the upgrading of servers and data networks. “The equipment was prepared to withstand the growth of the main site as well as the contingency”. In order to administrate and monitor the machines, Banestes adopted a specific software application from TeamQuest, which was also implemented by CIMCORP.

“We included behavioral studies, with details about how the clients use our services, and we also created differentiated environments in order to store the information”.
