Infrastructure as service contract, budgeted at R$ 48 thousand/month, established between Cassems and Cimcorp, foresees the outsourcing of storage, technical support and the virtualization of the legacy infrastructure, besides the implementation of a desk service tool.
CASSEMS –Public Server Assistance Fund of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul — changed its internal procedures in order to increase satisfaction of its 155 thousand policy holders. In 2008, the company launched the "Online Authorizer" service, which allowed its customers to automatically request procedure authorizations — medical appointments, tests, hospitalizations, etc. A model that had everything to work, had it not been for the degradation of the information technology and communications infrastructure, jeopardized by the excessive requests to the database.
"The demand for new health plans increased a lot, besides the requests for services, which caused excessive demand to the computer system ", reported Jose Eduardo de Paula Davi, infrastructure coordinator for Cassems. According to him, the requests for medical appointment and procedure authorizations alone went from 300 to 2,500 users within 6 months. "This overloaded the database and required the reformulation of practically the company's entire Dell system ", he added.
Just to give you an idea of the volume of requests, the "Online Authorizer" integrated over 2,000 certified institutions to CASSEMS, among which are medical offices, clinics, laboratories and hospitals. All of them began to request authorizations remotely and to expect replies within the period established by the company. For medical appointments for example, the response time must be immediate.
But CASSEMS only has one IBM DB2 database server for the internal services (administrative, business management system, the dental system, warehouse, etc.) as well as the authorizing system. And with its resources at the limit, the company decided to find a solution on the market that could manage the high number of users with speed and without causing system unavailability.
Cimcorp, a company specialized in services directed towards the optimization of performance, contingency, high availability and IT infrastructure management, was hired to manage the IT infrastructure, under the IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) concept, for which it will receive R$ 48 thousand/month.
The contract, whose services began in June, will last for three years. Cimcorp's IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) provides an investment model that allows companies, from any segment, access to full and updated IT environments, without the need for heavy initial investments.
"Besides the database, we had an already degraded hardware park, with three or four years of use, and the new contract will allow us to practically update all of the machines this semester ", said Jose Eduardo Davi.
According to him, the implementation of the infrastructure established in the contract should be concluded by early September, and the goal is to reduce the database consultation response time by 300%.
According to the CASSEMS executive, the customer currently has to wait approximately 10 minutes at the doctor's in order to obtain authorization for an appointment. The goal is that this authorization be immediate.
